What the First Amendment Really Says about Religion


Many people incorrectly maintain that the First Amendment was designed to remove any and all religious precepts and considerations from civil affairs… Too many debates over the meaning and implementation of the First Amendment are confused by a failure to cite it accurately:

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
